Sousse is one of the most family-friendly destinations for Gulf families in Tunisia, thanks to its wide beaches, family-oriented resorts, and relatively short distances between attractions. Here's how to plan a day or more with children.

The beach: the first draw for kids Sousse's golden sandy beaches are wide and slope gently into the sea in most areas, making them relatively suitable for families with young children compared to the rockier beaches found in other destinations. Choose a hotel with a private beach if possible for extra comfort and privacy, and check whether the hotel has a children's swimming pool as a safer alternative to open water for the very young.

Port El Kantaoui: a town designed for families Port El Kantaoui, minutes from Sousse, is a fully planned resort town built around an elegant boat marina, home to hotels catering exclusively to families, a water park (Aqua Palace) that's a lot of fun for kids on hot summer days, golf courses, and a variety of restaurants along the waterfront. A simple evening walk along the marina, past lit-up restaurants, shops, and boats, is a low-key activity the whole family enjoys.

The medina: a short, focused visit Sousse's medina doesn't need a full day with children; set aside two to three hours to visit the Ribat (climb its tower — kids generally love towers and views) and the nearby Great Mosque, then wander a little through the small souks. This gives children a historical experience without wearing them out with long stretches of walking.

El Jem trip: better suited to older kids The El Jem amphitheater is a day trip worth the effort with children roughly six or seven and older, since the amphitheater's sheer scale and dark underground passages usually spark their imagination. For younger children, the trip (about 45 minutes each way by car) may feel relatively long without enough activity in between.

Eating with kids Most of Sousse's tourist hotels and restaurants are used to hosting families and offer simplified children's menus. Fresh seafood is widely available given the coastal setting, and it's usually a safe, tasty option even for children who don't like spicy food.

Practical tips Book early in summer since family resorts fill up fast, keep applying sunscreen regularly for kids given how strong the sun is on the beach, and ask the hotel about organized kids' clubs, available at many larger resorts — they give you time to relax while your little ones have supervised fun.
