Bali's name traces to the ancient Sanskrit word 'bali,' meaning offering or tribute, sometimes paired with 'dwipa' (island) to mean 'island of offerings.' Tradition also links it to a legendary powerful king named Mahabali. The name is said to have been given by Bali's first king, Sri Kesari Warmadewa, around the 10th century.
