Lao Ma's House (老马家馆) sits in the historic Hui Muslim quarter on Gongyingtuan Road in Jinan's Shizhong District. Its roots trace back to the 1930s, when it was part of the renowned Daguanyuan commercial complex, opened in 1931 and modeled on Shanghai's own Daguanyuan. Since then, the restaurant has been known for its mutton hot pot — premium lamb sliced thin and cooked tableside in a bubbling broth — a perfect dish for Jinan's cold evenings. Today the restaurant still serves authentic halal food at reasonable prices (around 35 yuan per person), open daily from 11:30 am to 10 pm. Thanks to its storied location in the heart of Jinan's traditional Muslim neighborhood, Lao Ma's House offers Muslim travelers a rare stop combining historical authenticity and trustworthy halal food, away from the crowded tourist spots.
