Hong Bin Lou was founded in 1853 in Tianjin. In 1955, then-Premier Zhou Enlai personally invited the restaurant to open its first Beijing branch in recognition of its long-standing reputation for quality halal cuisine.
The restaurant is renowned for its halal Peking duck, prepared according to Islamic dietary law, alongside its "Whole Lamb Banquet" — inscribed on China's National Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2008 — as well as braised oxtail and clay pot lamb head. Set across three floors, the restaurant has hosted many notable guests over the decades, including former UK Prime Minister Edward Heath. A poem written in tribute to the restaurant by renowned Chinese scholar Guo Moruo still hangs in its foyer.
Hong Bin Lou blends the depth of traditional Chinese halal cooking with a dignified, historic atmosphere, ideal for visitors seeking an authentic cultural dining experience.
