📜 A Brief History of Lucerne
Lucerne began as a small fishing settlement around the Benedictine monastery of St. Leodegar, founded around 750 AD and originally under Murbach Abbey in Alsace. It became an independent town in 1178, and in 1332 joined the founding Swiss cantons — Uri, Schwyz, and Unterwalden — in the young Confederacy, later growing into one of central Switzerland's most iconic lakeside cities.
