Construction began in 1808 under Prince Muhammad bin Abdulmuhsin Al Ali and was completed during the reign of the Rashidi ruler Talal bin Abdullah. Originally a three-story complex spanning over 300,000 square meters, it served as the seat of the Rashidi Emirate. Ibn Saud ordered it demolished after the fall of the last Rashidi emir in 1921, leaving only two towers standing from the original structure. They still stand today near the old Barzan Market as the city's most prominent historic landmark.
