Tbilisi's name comes from the Georgian word “tbili,” meaning “warm,” after the hot sulfur springs found in the city. Legend has it that King Vakhtang Gorgasali discovered these springs while hunting, when his falcon and its prey fell into the hot water, prompting him to found a city on the spot.
