The Islamic Restaurant traces its roots to 1868, during the Tongzhi Emperor's reign, making it Shanghai's oldest halal establishment, at 2035 North Sichuan Road in Hongkou District. It still carries its planned-economy-era character, with aluminum trays and vintage cash registers, open 6am-8:30pm daily.

Its signature is the beef potsticker (¥1.80 per basket of five), filled with 80% pure fresh beef, honored as a "Shanghai Famous Specialty Dish." Popular combos include six potstickers with beef wonton soup (¥18). The freshest batch is said to come out around 3pm.
