One of the largest public squares in the world, located at the heart of Beijing facing Tiananmen Gate, from which Mao Zedong proclaimed the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949. It is flanked by the Great Hall of the People and the National Museum of China, and serves as an ideal starting point for visiting the neighboring Forbidden City.
