The greatest imperial palace complex in the world, built by the Ming dynasty's Yongle Emperor between 1406 and 1420 to serve as the seat of power for twenty-four emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties until 1911. It comprises more than 900 buildings and nearly eight thousand rooms, is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is known today as the Palace Museum.
