Frankincense and incense shops line up side by side, and the best approach is to smell and compare samples before buying — premium frankincense (Hojari grade) is translucent, near-white, and has a lighter, purer scent than the darker, cheaper grades. Always ask the seller about the source and harvest region — local traders are proud of this knowledge and happy to explain it.

Dhofari mountain honey

Dhofar is known for a unique mountain honey produced from rare local plant nectar in the highlands of Jabal Qara and Jabal Samhan, sold in the souq and specialty shops around the city. Check for a label naming the source (Sidr honey or Samr honey, for instance) — quality varies widely and price rises with rarity.
