Rome's salon since the 18th century: the Spanish Steps — 135 stairs flowing from the sunken-boat fountain (Bernini senior) to Trinità dei Monti, the great fashion streets (Condotti and sisters) below. Sitting on the steps is now fined — stroll and shoot standing; early morning grants them empty, noon impossible; April-May dresses them in azaleas — their loveliest season.
