Since 1905 the funicular has climbed Mtatsminda: at top a funfair whose wheel stands literally on the cliff edge — the whole city, valley and river below: Tbilisi's finest panorama uncontested. The historic Funicular restaurant serves the famous ponchiki (cream doughnuts) as the ascent's obligatory rite; sunset into city lights is the complete golden slot; the park card loads for rides — the edge wheel unmissable.
